The mission of the Cotton-O'Neil Clinical Research Center is to contribute to the development of pharmaceutical products and medical devices through the quality performance of clinical trials and to improve the health of individuals in our global community. We partner with research sponsors with the goal of consistently fulfilling enrollment expectations, providing high quality data, and demonstrating excellence in efficiency and professionalism.

The Cotton-O'Neil Clinical Research Center is the dedicated research organization of Stormont-Vail HealthCare -- an integrated healthcare delivery system in Northeast Kansas including Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, a 586-bed acute care center, and the Cotton-O'Neil Clinics - 160 primary care and sub-specialty physicians providing care in 14 counties in northeast Kansas.

The Clinical Research Center includes 36 physician principal and sub-investigators involved in Phase II-IV trials in the following areas: Allergy & Immunology, Bariatrics, Behavioral Health, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Digestive Health, Emergency Medicine, Hospitalist Services, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Pediatrics, Pulmonology, Surgery, and Trauma Services, and Women's Health.

Twenty staff members include: fourteen full-time clinical research coordinators; three certified by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, two part-time A.R.N.P sub-investigators, a part-time registered dietitian, a part-time certified diabetes educator, two IATA certified full-time phlebotomists, two full-time regulatory specialists, a full-time recruiter, and an administrative director.

The Clinical Research Center includes a dedicated research clinic on the "main campus" of the Stormont-Vail system. The research site includes exam rooms, drug storage, specimen storage, laboratory (including a refrigerated centrifuge), and monitor offices with high-speed internet access. The Clinical Research Center also has research staff and facilities in our sub-specialty clinics of behavioral health, digestive health, diabetes & endocrinology, and in-patient research offices in the Medical Center. In addition, throughout the Medical Center and Clinic facilities, the Clinical Research Center accesses the technology and expertise of our entire healthcare delivery system.

Over the past four years, we have conducted in excess of 150 trials and worked with over 40 corporate sponsors, with the current capacity to conduct more than 50 clinical trials yearly across all areas of medicine.

Our sevice area includes more than 14 counties in Northeast Kansas. We utilize an electronic medical record system that includes more than 400,000 patients. The community of patients are generally engaged in their healthcare, informed, and positive about the clinical research process.
