Oklahoma City Clinical Trials & Facilities – City Spotlight

Clinical trials are an efficient way for organizations and medical researchers to understand the side-effects of drugs or various forms of therapy. Today we turn our focus to clinical trials in Oklahoma City. Many clinical research facilities in Oklahoma focus on clinical research, and two such places include the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and the Lynn Health Science Institute.

The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation performs a lot of medical studies, including but not limited to finding ways to better diagnose lupus, diabetes, children’s diseases, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s and brain damage.

The researchers at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation are dedicated to asking the right questions in hopes to better understand how patients contract illnesses, how normal cells become cancer cells and why the body suddenly begins to attack itself. In their research to understand Diabetes, a disease that affects 20 million Americans, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation team is investigating a naturally occurring protein that can be used to treat Type II (adult) diabetes. Meanwhile, they’re studying the causes of juvenile (Type I) diabetes and are looking for ways to both prevent and treat this illness.

In 2009, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation was chosen to as one of the nine Autoimmunity Centers of Excellence, and shared in $57 million in grants in studying and producing new treatments for autoimmune disease. Autoimmune illnesses – such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis – affect 5 to 8 percent of Americans and total in the tens of billions of dollars in medical bills. Part of the study’s focus will be on clinical trials for “orphan diseases” – illnesses too few in number to justify medical research. The Lynn Health Science Institute is a well-known trial facility that combines both MDs and Ph.Ds who are well known in their scientific and research areas.

The Lynn Health Science Institute is a well-recognized organization because its possesses research programs that are monitored by nationally known investigators while having FDA capabilities to perform clinical trials from stages II to IV.

The Lynn Health Science Institute focuses on a variety of illnesses, including but not limited to: IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), heartburn, cardiovascular diseases, cystic fibrosis, women’s health and sleep disorders like insomnia – just to name a few! To show its dedication to its clinical research, the Lynn Health Science Institute may be involved in as many as thirty clinical trials at any one time or more.

Another thing that helps the Lynn Health Science Institute stand out is that it’s located in an diverse population, with an active volunteer base, which allows its research to accurately reflect the national demographic. They have many services that allow for quick and efficient clinical studies: six rooms with round the clock monitoring, a large patient database to choose from, and a large room so that patients may wait comfortably.

Both OMRF and LHSI are dedicated to being as compassionate as possible as they explore treatments, cures and preventive techniques to help people live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives. They are helping Oklahoma City become more medically recognized throughout the state. You can also check out some of the other clinical trials in Oklahoma to find the one that best fits your needs!
