Nephrology Associates has been meeting the needs of the patients with kidney disease in the Chattanooga area since 1973. Our eleven (11) Nephrologists care for over 600 hemodialysis, and 20 peritoneal dialysis patients in 10 outpatient clinics. In addition there are over 5,000 active patients followed regularly in our practice with various combinations of renal disease, diabetes, hypertension, and transplant needs. Our doctors cover nine different acute medical centers. They see over 100 new patients per week.

We are committed to performing Phase II through IV clinical trials in a manner that facilitates rapid enrollment, timely and accurate data recording, and the highest quality of patient care while maintaining strict adherence to GPC Guidelines. We have a completely computerized medical record system, with 5 years of patient data, facilitating the tracking of diagnoses, medications, and laboratory studies.

We have a dedicated Research Coordinator who is experienced in maintaining ethical standards, regulatory documents, accurate completion of Case Report Forms, and Pharmaceutical dispensing and accountability. We also have an administrative team experienced in the negotiation of research budgets.

We are interested in participating in clinical trials of pharmaceutical products and/or medical devices related to renal disease, diabetes, hypertension, dialysis, dialysis access, renal transplant or related conditions and products.

Chattanooga is conveniently located within a two hour drive from Atlanta or Knoxville, and three hours from Nashville and Birmingham. It has a regional jetport served by four major carriers, with direct flights to/from Washington DC, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Nashville, Memphis, and New York.

Claude M. Galphin, M.D.
Dr. Galphin is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology, Internal Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Galphin is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina; he completed his internal medicine training and his nephrology training at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Galphin is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

Mandeep S. Grewal, M.D.
Dr. Grewal is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology, and Internal Medicine. Dr Grewal is a graduate of the University of Nairobi Medical School, Nairobi, Kenya; he completed his internal medicine training at Grant Hospital of Chicago, Chicago, IL which is an affiliate of Rush Presbyterian / St. Luke Medical Center. Dr. Grewal completed his nephrology fellowship at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, GA. Dr. Grewal is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

Jackson J. Yium, M.D.
Dr. Yium is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Yium is a graduate of the University Of Texas School Of Medicine; he completed his internal medicine training and his Nephrology Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Yium is also the Head of the Nephrology section of the Department of Medicine at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Adel N. Shenouda, M.D.
Dr. Shenouda is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Shenouda is a graduate of Cairo University Medical College in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his internal medicine training at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and his Nephrology Fellowship at The University of Tennessee Medical School, Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Shenouda serves as Associate Director of the Department of Nephrology at Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga, TN.

Frank J. Miller, M.D.
Dr. Miller is Board Certified in the following areas: Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Dr. Miller is a graduate of The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Medical School. He completed his internal medicine training and his Nephrology Fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA. Dr. Miller also serves as an Assistant Professor, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Medicine unit.

Joseph T. Watlington, M.D.
Dr. Watlington is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Watlington is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences Memphis, TN; he completed his internal medicine training at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences Chattanooga, TN and his nephrology fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. Dr. Watlington is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

Donald B. Franklin, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Franklin is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Franklin is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA; he completed his internal medicine training at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences Chattanooga, TN and his nephrology fellowship at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. Dr. Franklin is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

Christopher Vell Poole, M.D.
Dr. Poole is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Poole is a graduate of the University Of South Alabama College Of Medicine; he completed his internal medicine training at the University of Alabama Birmingham and his nephrology fellowship at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Dr Poole is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

Nathan Edward Chamberlain, M.D.
Dr. Chamberlain is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Chamberlain is a graduate of the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. He completed his internal medicine training at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and his nephrology fellowship at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Dr. Chamberlain is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

John D. McCarley, M.D.
Dr. McCarley is Board Certified in the following areas: Nephrology and Internal Medicine. Dr. McCarley is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He completed his internal medicine training at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and his nephrology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. McCarley is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

Rohit K. Gupta M.D.
Dr. Gupta is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and is Board eligible in Nephrology. Dr. Gupta is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. He completed his internal medicine residence at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center, and his nephrology fellowship at the University of Virginia. Dr. Gupta is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Tennessee Chattanooga Unit.

Carol Hardy White, RN, MN, ANP-CS, CCTC
Nurse Practitioner
Director Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic-Carol has a solid background as a Sub-Investigator and Study Coordinator. She is a member of the American Nephrology Nurses Association and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Kimbra L. Lingerfelt, RN, FNP
Nurse Practitioner
Kim sees patients in our Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic, as well as our outpatient Hemodialysis Unit. Kim has several years experience as a Study Coordinator and a Sub-Investigator.

Patricia G. Sexton, RN, BSN
Research Coordinator
Patti is our full time Research Coordinator. She is responsible for the overall management of the research studies conducted by Nephrology Associates. Patti has had formal training in Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, as well as, the International Conference on Harmonization Guidelines. Nephrology/Urology

We have two offices conveniently located in the Downtown Chattanooga area. There is a conference room and extra office space for visiting monitors. Our practice utilizes a comprehensive electronic charting system. We perform EKG's, urinalyses, and phlebotomy with blood tests being sent out to any of several available laboratories. We are also conveniently located near outpatient radiology groups which can provide any needed radiological service. A vascular access intervention center, and a certified vascular lab will open summer, 2005.
