Validation of Serum Markers as a Bioassay for Unipolar Depression

The goal of the study is to develop a biomarker assay for unipolar depression based on serum
proteins involved in inflammation, metabolism, and stress response. The study will compare
patients with a current major depressive episode to individuals with no history of
depression. Additional patients with depression and posttraumatic stress disorder will also
be included. The hypothesis is that the assay can serve as a diagnostic tool that would be
more objective than standard diagnostic questionnaires.

Ridge Diagnostics (formerly Precision Human Biolaboratories) is developing a blood test that
will serve as a bioassay for major depression. The test examines a panel of proteins and
applies a unique algorithm to indicate an individual's level of depression. The test will
provide physicians with a method of identifying individuals with major depression.
