Legacy Health System provides health care to a third of the population. Many patients from other parts of Oregon and the West also come to Legacy Portland hospitals for specialized treatment. Legacy Emanuel Hospital is a designated regional Level I Trauma Center, operates the Life Flight emergency air transportation system, and houses the Oregon Burn Center. Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital provides the most extensive inpatient pediatric services in the Portland area, and includes the regional Pediatric Intensive Care and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units.

The Legacy Clinical Research and Technology Center has emerged from an extensive remodeling and refitting of a former hospital, closed in 1993 to consolidate hospital operations at other Legacy facilities. The new Center opened in July, 1997, and encompasses 65,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratories, clinics, and an extensive support matrix. The building includes a 9500 sq. ft Clinical Research Center dedicated to out-patient studies.

The Legacy Clinical Research and Technology Center is located in downtown Portland, at the intersection of Interstates 5 and 84, a 20 minute drive from Portland International Airport. Bus and light rail stops are across the street, and numerous hotels and restaurants are within easy walking distance.
