Pulmonary Associates of Richmond, Inc. Clinical Research Division has two full time research facilities dedicated to pulmonary diseases located less than one mile from the CJW Medical Center Chippenham Campus and next to the Henrico Doctors Hospital Campus in Richmond, Virginia. Our practice has 27 Board Certified Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine physicians as well as 4 nurse practitioners and physician assistants located in four offices in the Richmond metropolitan area. Patients can receive research related care at no cost to them given by these exceptional specialists and certified clinical research coordinators.

Glenn Giessel, M.D., CPI -- Medical Director
Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Giessel has over 15 years experience in conducting Phase II - IV clinical trials and has received his research certification as a CPI by APPI/ACRP.

Douglas W. Puryear, M.D.
Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine/Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Puryear has been involved in pulmonary clinical research at our center for 13 years.

Ritsu Kuno, M.D., CPI
Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Kuno has received his research certification as a CPI by APPI/ACRP. Dr. Kuno has been involved in pulmonary clinical research at our center for 12 years.

Jamie C. Hey, M.D.
Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine
Dr. Hey has been involved in our clinical research program for over six years. Prior to joining our staff, Dr. Hey participated in many clinical trials at the University of Maryland. Dr. Hey specializes in performing clinical trials studying pulmonary hypertension and emphysema.

Richard M. Hamrick, III, M.D., M.B.A.
Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine
Dr. Hamrick has been involved in our clinical research program since its beginning in 1995. He has served as a principal investigator in several of our trials.

Scott K. Radow, M.D.

Dr. Radow has been involved in our clinical research program for over ten years and over the past four years has served as a principal investigator for COPD and Asthma clinical trials.

Kenneth S. Haft, M.D.
Board Certified in Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Medicine
Dr. Haft has been involved in our clinical research program since we opened our Santa Rosa location in 2006. He serves as a principal investigator in our COPD trials.

Michael B. Polsky, M.D.

Dr. Polsky has been involved in clinical research over the past two years and has served as a principal investigator for our COPD studies.

Laura Lincoln, RN, BSN, CCRC
Clinical Research Division, Director
Ms. Lincoln has been involved in clinical research for 20 years, with clinical trial experience in pulmonary medicine, congestive heart failure, hypertension, angina, diabetes, antimicrobials, migraine therapy, arthritis and chronic pain. She also has an extensive background in critical care and hospital management.

Kelly Doyle, RRT, CCRC
Clinical Research Division, Assistant Director
Ms. Doyle has spent the past 14 years involved in pulmonary clinical research. This follows her tenure in the Respiratory Therapy Department of CJW Chippenham Medical Center.

Jennifer Raymond, CNA, CRT, CCRC
Clinical Research Coordinator
Ms. Raymond has 9 years experience in pulmonary clinical research. She has served in a dual capacity during her time at PAR as she is also licensed radiologic technician-limited.

Deborah Boisseau, LPN, CCRC
Clinical Research Coordinator
Ms. Boisseau has been involved in research for over 10 years. Ms. Boisseau has experience in conducting Phase I-IV clinical trials as well as working in sleep medicine.

Charmaine Taylor, MA
Clinical Research Coordinator
Ms. Taylor has been employed by Pulmonary Associates for over 15 years. She has been coordinating clinical trials for us since 2008.

Rose Sidell, RRT
Clinical Research Coordinator
Ms. Sidell has been a registered respiratory therapist for over twenty years. Prior to joining to our research center in 2009 she specialized in bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing and has experience with sleep studies.

Wendy Jenvey, RN,
Clinical Research Coordinator
Ms. Jenvey has over 20 years experience in inpatient and outpatient clinical trials specializing in Pulmonary diseases. Prior to joining our staff in 2009, she had conducted clinical trials for the Medical College of Virginia and for the Veterans Administration.

Alison Potter
Patient Recruiter
Ms. Potter joined our staff in 2009 as a full time patient recruiter. Prior to joining us she had been a certified clinical research coordinator since 1988. She has recruited for and conducted many multidisciplinary trials in both the family practice and specialist outpatient setting.


We are located in Central Virginia in the Richmond Metropolitan area and draw patients from a radius of up to 75 miles from our office. The Richmond metro area has a population of greater than 882,000 people. 49% are male and 51% are female. Adults 25-54 represent 44% of the market. The median age of the region is 37.1years. 66% of the population is Caucasian with 30% Black and 4% other ethnicities. Our clinical practice conducts 20,000 patient visits annually with an average age of 65. We enroll many of our patients from within the practice however we also recruit from advertising and other physician referrals.

Our Boulders location has over 2800 square feet of office space that has state of the art equipment. We have 4 exam rooms and a locked storage space for study records and medications. It is adjacent to our 9200 square foot pulmonary practice clinic which has 12 exam rooms. In addition we are equipped with ECG machines, nebulizers, pulmonary function laboratory (including plethsmography), an emergency cart, and oxygen. Our research facility also has drug storage refrigerators, a - 20 and - 80 degree Celsius freezers, and a refrigerated & ambient centrifuge. We also have a kitchen on premises to provide meals for patients who participate in lengthy pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic studies. We are located in the Boulders office park near Chippenham and Powhite Parkways in a one-story suite with ample parking for patients. Our Boulders clinic is attached to a four bed sleep center where we currently conduct 24-hour serial spirometry and PK testing. Pulmonary Associates operates three sleep centers and has state of the art technology capable of tailoring its sleep studies to meet any sponsor requirements.

Our Santa Rosa Facility offers the same state of the art equipment in a dedicated office located in the Forest Office Park near the intersection of Forest Avenue and Three Chopt Road in the West End area of Richmond. We have two exam rooms as well as phlebotomy lab and patient dining area covering over 1500 square feet. It is adjacent to our 8200 square foot pulmonary practice clinic with 11 physicians. This location also has drug storage refrigerators, - 20 and - 80 degree Celsius freezers and a centrifuge as well as full pulmonary function testing with body plethysmography on site.
