Cary Pediatric Center is a multi-site pediatric group practice with locations in Cary, Fuquay-Varina and Apex, North Carolina. We dedicate our clinical research efforts to the effective, efficient and safe evaluation of new pharmaceutical products in the pediatric population. We focus on working closely with parents to protect their child's rights and provide good quality care.
Clinical research staff receive training on clinical research and as a result are knowledgeable in clinical trial execution, FDA regulations, and ICH and Good Clinical Practice guidelines. We offer responsive turn around for Site Interest Forms for upcoming studies, rapid patient enrollment, accessible and responsive investigators and staff, as well as a process and detail-oriented focus to deliver complete and accurate data.
Cary Pediatric Center's principal investigator is Dr. Mark Simpson, a board certified pediatrician who has been with the practice since 1983. Dr. Simpson participated as a sub-investigator in an infant formula study in the mid-1990's. In 2003, Dr. Simpson and two of his partners, Dr. Hugh Powell and Dr. Virgil Steele, received recognition for being among the "Nation's Best Doctors", by Best Doctors Inc.
Cary Pediatric Center serves the community as a general pediatric practice and works closely with local specialists and those at nearby teaching hospitals/referral centers. The practice treats pediatric patients with a wide range of illnesses such as colds, viruses, infections, dermatitis and other skin diseases, asthma, bronchitis, allergies, ADD/ADHD (teamed with local therapists), as well as administering over 5,000 vaccinations each year. Annually, thousands of well-baby checks and routine physicals are performed. Cary Pediatric Center physicians hold privileges with three local hospitals, all within close proximity to the office: Rex Hospital, Wake Medical Center, and Western Wake Medical Center.
We have been the site for 6 clinical trials and will begin 2-3 additional trials in the next 4-5 months. We have experience with nutritional studies (infant formula), drug studies and vaccine trials. We have experience with both paper CRF's and e-CRF's, internet randomization and RDE/RDC (remote data entry/remote data capture). We administer over 10,000 vaccines each year in the Cary location alone.
The Cary site has 2 dedicated Study Coordinators, Melodie Lynch BSN,RN, who has been with the practice for 15+ years and have experience with all of the studies noted in the investigator experience section. Staff at the other two sites are trained to handle inquires and referrals for study participation.
Cary Pediatric Center's three sites have a patient population of over 30,000. Our annual patient visits are > 95,000.

- 1-5 years: 29%
- 6-10 years: 27%
- 11-18 years: 30%
- Over 18 years: 8%
Pediatrics/Neonatology
Cary Pediatric practices are located in Cary, Fuquay-Varina and Apex, North Carolina. A total of thirteen (13) Board Certified pediatricians, three(3) Nurse Practitioners and twenty three (23) nurses and clinical staff provide services across the three locations. The Cary office serves as the Clinical Research Site and clinical trial subjects from the other two locations are referred to the Cary site. All sites maintained CLIA-certified laboratories and offer extended hours of care. A -20 degree freezer is on-site as well as a separate refrigerator/freezer dedicated to the storage of study medications and vaccines. There is also ample storage space for study medications, records and files. A fax machine for research use, internet access and monitoring space is also available.
