Florida Center for Allergy and Asthma Research specializes in conducting clinical trials for indications of pediatric and adult allergy and asthma. Specific additional interests are allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, urticaria, asthma in pregnancy, venom allergy, and hypogammaglobulinemia. Our research center is attached to our clinical office located in South Miami. Our research team includes three investigators, two study coordinators, and numerous support staff.

Our research team has more than 30 years experience in clinical research that includes multiple asthma and rhinitis trials. Most recently, we have conducted as well as a monoclonal IV antibody trial. Our investigators and staff have extensive experience with phase II, III, and IV trials. Our clinical offices provide us with a database of approximately 10,000 patients per year who suffer from allergies and asthma. We are interested in participating in trials for indications of asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, sinusitis, pregnancy and asthma, food allergies, insect venom trials and any other allergy related problems.

Some of the sponsors we have worked with include Genentech, GSK, Scherring Plough, Merck, Novartis, AstraZeneca, Aerovance, Amgen and others. We have also worked with CROssuch as PPD, Quintiles, PRA, Covance, Parexel, only to name a few.

Michael P. Pacin, M.D. received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed his fellowship in allergy and immunology at the University of California Irvine. Dr. Pacin has been a principal investigator in a multitude of clinical research trials over the past thirty years. Dr. Pacin is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Allergy & Immunology.

Jaime Landman, M.D. has been with Florida Center for Allergy and Asthma Research since 1994 and has been an investigator in several of our clinical research studies. Dr. Landman is Board Certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy & Immunology. He is a member of both the American College of Allergy and Immunology and the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology. He received his M.D. from the University of Peru and completed his fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Ileana Rodicio, M.D. has been with the research center since 2003 and has participated in several trial as a Sub Investigator. Dr. Rodicio is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She received her MD degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences in Havana, Cuba and completed her fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Weill Cornell medical College in New York.

Rachel Hewett, LPN,CRC has been working with the research center for 7 years as a clinical research coordinator. She received her degree from Barry University I 1996. Prior to joining the research center she was a staff nurse at Florida Center for Allergy and Asthma Care.

Florina Shawwaf, MS , CRC has been working with the research center for 7 years as a clinical research coordinator. She has a MS from the University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. During the past 7 years she has coordinated over 45 asthma and allergic rhinitis clinical trials.


We are located in a highly diverse urban area of more than two million people. We have developed an extensive patient data base due to our reputation and longevity in the community. Our patient population is composed of 40% pediatrics and 60% adults. We have all the countries of South and Central America as well as Asian, Caribbean and indigenous Indians represented in our ethnic communities.

Florida Center for Allergy and Asthma Research has a state of the art research facility. Our center can perform phlebotomy, skin testing, computerized spirometry, ECG, tympanometry, and sinus ultrasound. We work with sub-investigators who perform chest x-rays, sinus x-rays, and antral punctures. We have all of the emergency equipment needed for an adverse event and are located close to Baptist Hospital ER. We provide ample space for monitors to work comfortably with phone, fax, DSL and copy machines readily available. Our Kendall location is convenient to the Miami International Airport and our office is close to many good hotels and restaurants. We are easily accessible by car and public transportation
