Madison Skin & Research, Inc. is an independent clinical research site specializing in dermatology. Our newly expanded facility specializes in Phase I through Phase IV clinical research trials as well as original pilot studies for the development of cosmetic and dermatological therapies. Our staff consists of a board certified physician and 2 certified research coordinators specifically dedicated to research. Our main office is located in Madison, WI with 2 Satellite sites in Middleton and Monroe WI, which serves suburban and rural populations. This provides adequate numbers to meet enrollment needs in today's competitive research world.

With over 9 years experience in research, our site has an excellent track record for meeting enrollment deadlines, providing reliable subjects and quality data. We take pride in completion of our CRF's, ensuring accurate and clean data all in a timely manner.

Harry Sharata, M.D. PhD
Medical Director
Dr. Sharata has been conducting pharmaceuticals research since 1977. While there he developed a keen interest in pharmaceutics research and specialized in the area of solid dosage forms and percutaneous absorption. In 1982, he moved to Madison, Wisconsin to earn an MD as a PhD in Pharmaceutics. His research focused on drug delivery through the skin and treatment of dermatological conditions. He developed novel techniques for in situ characterization of drug transport through the stratum corneum. Clinical training followed at George Washington University Hospital and at the Detroit Medical Center where he was a resident and Chief Resident in Dermatology. In 1994, Dr. Sharata returned to Madison, Wisconsin where he held dual appointments in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Wisconsin and was Chief of Dermatology Services at the Madison VA Hospital. He continued with research in the basics sciences as well as in clinical arena leading to the formation of Madison Skin and Research, Inc. in 1997.

Mary Sharata, RPh, CCRC
Mary Sharata is a registered pharmacist in the state of Wisconsin and Michigan. She has extensive experience in community and hospital pharmacy. Mary has over 9 years experience as the Director of Operations managing studies for Madison Skin & Research, Inc. Her primary responsibilities are: study start-up, Regulatory documents, and Budgets, but also does some study coordinating. Mary was ACRP certified in 2001.

Lori Moe, LPN, CCRC
Lori has 20 years experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator and has been ACRP certified for 17 years. She joined Madison Skin & Research in November of 2001. Her dermatology clinical study experience includes rosacea, acne, psoriasis, stasis dermatitis, atopic, and seborrheic dermatitis, leg ulcers, tinea pedis, ichthyosis vulgaris, HSV, warts and basal cell carcinoma. She also has experience with cardiology, musculoskeletal, urinary, and pediatric studies. She conducts Phase I'IV studies and has authored and helps modify study protocols.


The community's positive view towards clinical research allows us to recruit study subjects by direct advertising, physician referrals and direct referrals from Dr. Sharata's clinical practice, Advanced Dermatology, Inc. The patient population consists of Caucasians, Hispanics, African-Americans, and Asians. We have experience with Pediatrics to Geriatrics. With 3 facilities available we are able to recruit subjects from both suburban and rural sites. We have also maintained several databases for those subjects interested in future studies.

Our main office is located in Madison, Wisconsin, the home of the University of Wisconsin and the capital of the state. In addition we have satellite offices in Middleton and Monroe, Wisconsin. Public transportation is available including bus stops within a block.

Unique to our facilities is a CLIA approved lab for processing body fluids as well as skin tissues, and is equipped with centrifuges, cryostat, -20º C Freezer, microscope, EKG, blood drawing station and adequate storage for lab kits and shipping materials. In addition to our clinic exam rooms we also have 3 dedicated exam rooms exclusively for research and a private photography suite. We have a designated area where study drug is kept in a secure locked cabinet and locked refrigerator, both which are monitored daily for temperature control.

We have a fully equipped crash cart with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), emergency medications and oxygen. All office staff is CPR certified and our surgical staff is ACLS certified at all three facilities.

We are dedicated to maintaining long term relationships with our sponsors. We have two private monitoring rooms, which provide a quite and comfortable working place. Both rooms have internet access (DSL) available, as well as a phone, fax and copy machine.
