University of Missouri Health Care (UMHC) is the largest medical facility in Mid-Missouri, employing more than 6,000 clinicians, scientists, educators, and other healthcare providers. As one of Missouri's premier academic medical centers, it provides highly specialized, multidisciplinary care through an extensive network of hospitals, community-based clinics, and centers of excellence. Its primary academic partners consist of the schools of medicine, nursing, and health professions.

Other features of note include the designation of University Hospital as one of only two Level I trauma centers in the state, the development of Columbia Regional Hospital as the home for women's and children's services (including the Family Birth Center and the Children's Hospital, the region's largest, most comprehensive pediatric facility), the Rusk Rehabilitation Center (a premier facility for physical medicine and rehabilitation), the recent addition of the Missouri Psychiatric Center, and the specialty research functions of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center (Missouri's official state cancer center) and Dalton Research Center (cardiovascular health and nuclear medicine).

Located midway between St. Louis and Kansas City, with outpatient clinics in several communities throughout the region, UMHC is home to the Missouri Telehealth Network (MTN) providing high-quality specialty care to 200 sites in rural Missouri. MTN received the 2003 American Telemedicine Association President's Award for the Advancement of Telemedicine.
