The Department of Internal Medicine is one of the largest clinical departments at Eastern Virginia Medical School, providing primary and subspecialty diagnostic and health care services for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Our faculty specialize in general or primary care internal medicine, diabetes and endocrinology, geriatrics, pulmonary and critical care, sleep medicine, and infectious diseases.

Our clinical investigators have a long history of conducting both industry sponsored and investigator initiated research for phase I-IV clinical trials working with experienced certified research coordinators. We offer timely and successful enrollment of study subjects and deliver high quality data with low query rates.

We conduct research in most therapeutic areas including:

Our staff have conducted national and multinational clinical trials, both outpatient and inpatient and including assisted and long term care . We enjoy enthusiastic support and participation from the community. Using standard operating procedures, we support clinical trials through all phases. Our clinical research coordinators are certified professionals.
The Hampton Roads/Tidewater area is the 28th largest metropolitan market in the United States. Hampton Roads boast a diverse population of over 1.4 million people. Our patient population reflects the ethnic diversity of Hampton Roads.

We participate in Phase I, II, III, IV, OTC, device and post marketing clinical trials. Our facilities include examination rooms, on-site physician investigators, and a full complement of clinical research coordinators, and regulatory and administrative support. Our experienced team provides rapid protocol review and study initiation. We have a designated research support office within the department. Trials are conducted with primary care and sub-specialists in most major therapeutic areas. We are equipped with EKG machines, densitometry, interactive driving simulators, -70C freezer, refrigerated centrifuge and refrigerated drug storage capability. We utilize electronic medical records and all coordinators are experienced with electronic data capture/electronic case report forms.
