GPS Spotlight Features Four New Trials in California

California is a leading location for clinical trialsCalifornia is a national leader in conducting and enrolling participants for clinical trials. Without the efforts of “The Golden State”, many pharmaceutical companies would not have the resources to test groundbreaking drugs and therapies. There are a few key reasons why California excels in the clinical research industry:

With each completed study, researchers take another step towards solving some of the biggest challenges facing the medical community. This has led to better treatments and an improved quality of life for people with chronic conditions like diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic pain.

Are you looking to enroll in a clinical trial in California? Here are a few of the latest trials featured on Clinical Trials GPS from the Golden State:

Identifying Biological Markers for Severe Depression

An observational study being conducted at the University of California, Irvine. Researchers are investigating the biological components of severe depression. One of the primary focuses is genetic variations and how they impact cortisol, which is significantly higher in chronic cases of depression. They’ll also determine how genetic variation can affect other clinical symptoms like suicidal behavior and psychosis.

Vitamin D and Type 2 Diabetes Study

This clinical trial is being conducted at the University of Southern California (USC), and investigators are looking for adults with prediabetes to enroll. The primary goal of this study is to determine if vitamin D supplementation can delay the onset of type 2 diabetes in pre-diabetics. Investigators will also look to gain some insight into how vitamin D impacts sugar (glucose) metabolism.

HomeTech Healthy Lifestyle Program for Mothers With Young Children

This UC San Francisco study is looking at curbing obesity rates in Chinese American preschoolers from low-income families with overweight mothers. Investigators will implement a family-centered/technology-based intervention over the course of the study period. All participants are being recruited from Head Start programs and local day care settings.

Chinese American children in this demographic outpace the nationwide average for childhood obesity rate, and the number is expected to increase. This intervention was developed under the supervision of a Community Advisory Committee and approved for cultural appropriateness via beta-testing.

Belimumab Assessment of Safety in SLE

If you have active  Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE or lupius), we recommend this clinical study in Anaheim, CA. The purpose of this trial is to gain further insight into the side effects caused by belimumab when taken in combination with other lupus treatments. Investigators will be compiling information on adverse reactions which have been classified as uncommon.
